Trick & Treat DIY

...Tutorial...

so i cant take credit for this... it was on pinterest to be completely honest... but we put our own spin on it!

So the difference is that we did "TRICK TREAT" on the front and
" GIVE THANKS" on the back so its a two for one!

So all you need to do this project are:

  • Stencils from Michaels for letters
  • sponge brush and paint brush
  • color for letters and background
  • sanding block
  • two closet doors

So to start you remove hinges (if necessary), then rough it up a little with your power sander or sanding block. (I use a Ryobi.)
Then put on your base coat. I used Matte Black for Halloween and Golden Cricket for the Fall Side.
Once a couple Coats are applied AND DRY then tape on your stencils and blot with your Sponge Brush.

After they both dry you can choose to antique by sanding all over and around or by rubbing a Stain if you prefer those. I used both!

Then let set and your done! So simple and cute right! Do enjoy... We are!!

the teal desk...SOLD...

...keeper...

this was given to me by an old neighbor who said it had been in his family for years and years and he had no use for it. i was more than happy to take it off his hands :) and as always i battled forever on what color to paint it. but in this new house at heather drive i have sorta decided a color scheme maybe? But they always change anyway right? so here she is...

so excited how it turned out! adds just the right pop of color to our room! LOVE!

the $7 MINT buffet ...SOLD...

...a keeper....

yes $7 people. unreal i know. so on the way back from hiking the wind caves my mom and i saw a sign that said estate sell. best believe we stopped and found this gem. which now serves as out entertainment center.

it is the same color as the BLUE bench. If you want to get this look painting your own furniture, here is what you do...

sand the surfaces
buy a paint and primer in ONE
and a soft tip brush
lay it on thick the first time because you only are going to do 1 1/2 coats.
the antiquing comes from the lack of paint in some spots.around the knobs and curvy details just brush over and around them and don't fill in the details. natural aging.  so its a super fast way to do it.wait a few hours  then finish with  a coat of  ...
to seal and protect your furniture.

let it dry a few hours and your finished!

now if i could get this look for my tv i think i might just die with excitement... so cute..

the BLUE Bench ...Sold...

My awesome Grandma Lebaron has these days where she cleans house and garage and lets all of the aunts uncles and cousins come over and basically we take turns picking from all of her goodies! So one of my goodies was this Bench! I wish I had taken a better picture but totally forgot! So here it is! I love how unique it is and it works perfectly on our new front patio... which needs some TLC so I will not be posting a picture of that! Thanks...

So here is the before and after

Sorry My pictures are lame... Ill take better ones in the future.

the YELLOW dresser...SOLD...

Loved the detail on this dresser! So buying it to refinish was a must! There also was a matching night stand that ill take care of later! I wanted to try something bold so I got this new Yellow color that I ended up loving! And I love to just paint the original hardware. I think its so charming!

Before and After Eye candy for you! Here you Go!

the $5 Desk ...SOLD...

I have been on the search for a desk for our computer for what feels like forever.. Last Saturday on my way to the gym I noticed my neighbors were having a yard sale! So I went on over and found a few treasures!

This desk was a steal! Nothing wrong with it I could hardly believe when I saw the little $5 price tag on it! Finally!! They moved it into my yard then immediately I went to town...

*some light sanding
*4 coats of paint
*spraypainting the hardware
and here she is...

One step closer to an unpacked home!

I also picked up these beauties that I havent quite decided what to do with yet. but you will know soon im sure.

Mammas Piano

So for two years at least, at our old house this piano sat in my living room. And My mom could not bare to let it be painted.

But to my luck...after many of before and after projects she finally caved and I couldn't be more excited! I picked up my paint brush and went to town, and I am thrilled with the results! So happy to have the piano that I learned to play on to keep for my kids to learn on someday! Now I need a rug and curtains and my living room will be mostly complete!

the Entertainment Center

We just moved into our new home and This little treasure was left here for us! We are still unpacking!! So dont judge the surroundings please!!

Cant beat Free! But the Red was a little to deep and dark for the room. I wanted to lift the color but debated what to go with. I litterally bought white. But a visit to home depot and a look at the "OOPS" paint and I was sold!

A quick paint job and some new knobs from Anthopologie So this is what we ended up with. And I love it! This is for sure a Keeper

Heather...The Start

I have never been very consistent with this blogging biz. I find I get more distracted finding and following than actually writing up my own... But this is for You my friends and family who wanted me to keep track of furniture that I fix up and sell of keep. Just to me more "organized about it" (you know who you are) :).
Chaos is my life ...and with the help of my two boys making a $5 desk into something unrecognizable is instantly gratifying!

So many pieces have come and gone but Ill keep track from here on out! Here we go
